I had the pleasure of spending a weekend in Cape May New Jersey with some talented photography friends. With a rich history and award winning beaches, there is something in Cape May for any visitor. Although I love these photographic journeys they are often so fast paced, starting with sunrise shoots at oh-dark-thirty and finishing in the wake of the last bit of afterglow from the setting sun, that I leave craving for time to be just a tourist.
Cape May is noted for its large number of well-maintained Victorian houses, the second largest collection of such homes in the nation after San Francisco. The entire seashore town is a National Historic Landmark. Many of Cape May's huge Victorian seaside "cottages" have been turned into bed and breakfast inns, guest houses and even restaurants.
The common thread of a Cape May visitor is the 30 mile stretch of clean, white sandy beaches. Despite the post summer timing of our trip, the beaches continued its draw of locals and tourists for walking, surfing, shell collecting and even a wedding or two.
For our small group, the suntan lotion and bathing suits were left at home as the weekend was all about the sunrises and sunsets. Here are a couple of my favorite captures from the weekend.
