Chincoteague

The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, on the southern tip of Assateague Island, Virginia, is a refuge  established primarily for the protection of migrating snow geese.  I have the pleasure of shooting here this weekend.  Tonight, on a scouting trip, we came across a number of photographers flocked together with their lenses pointed toward the 1000 or more snow geese who had gathered in this staging area.

Just before sunset and almost on cue, the geese took fight, continuing their southbound journey to warmer climes.  Tomorrow, hopefully, there will be another 1000 gathered in this same location.  I am torn between attempting to capture the image or just taking in the wonder of this amazing site.

I love them taking flight - and the foreground grasses are such a nice contrast with the blue water. Nice! Barbara K
