Grandchildren are the dots that connect the lines from generation to generation

First glimpse of Times Square
As difficult as it is to believe, our first grandchild, Caitlin, turned 10 this month and was the first of my three granddaughters given a special birthday trip to New York City.   She has captivated us these years, watching her absorb the tasks of being a toddler, grasping the reality of acquiring twin brothers, mastering the art of charming her parents and grandparents and developing into a fun loving, beautiful young girl.
Our time in the Big Apple was brief,  yet we made up for it in activities; Times Square where we had our 15 seconds of fame on the billboards, a trip to Lady Liberty and Ellis Island, the typical touristy carriage ride through Central Park, a stop at FAO Schwartz (after all, she is only 10), a night on Broadway to see Wicked (hands down the best I've ever seen on Broadway) followed by  a quick "slice" at Sbarros, and of course mastering the art of the MTA.  We even had time to take in lunch with friends in Chinatown and shop for souvenirs, Caitlins first knockoff designer handbag!  Every bit of the weekend was used to give Caitlin the best time a ten year old could ask for.  Her big smiles along the way told me it was a success.
